Gluten-Free Naan (Flatbread)

We all have memories tied to specific foods and ingredients.

When it comes to naan, I feel a deep sense of warming comfort and satisfaction, knowing that the flatbread will likely be accompanied by a spicy curry dish, laden with fresh herbs and a balanced variety of lightly toasted whole and ground spices.

About fifteen years ago, I was among a group of food-loving friends at an Indian restaurant, and made the mistake of calling this item “naan bread”.

I was promptly informed that “naan” literally translates to “bread”, which made my error the linguistic equivalent of calling this item “bread bread”. Since then, I have always tried to correct this error.

This naan recipe below is easier to make than you might think!

Total Time:

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes

  • Cooking Time: 12 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 120 mL warm water

  • 8 g active dry yeast

  • 240 g Caputo gluten-free flour
